Congratulations to David Migoya, Denver Post business news reporter who was nationally recognized yesterday by the Society of American Business Editors and Writers for his reporting on Colorado’s foreclosure system.
David Migoya received the “Best in Business” award in the Real Estate category and was presented the award in Indianapolis. Two other winners in the category were The Baltimore Sun and The Miami Herald.
Last week, I appeared before a state House committee testifying in support of House Bill 1156 (HB1156) sponsored by Representative Beth McCann.
David wrote an outstanding article last Tuesday, March 13, 2012 titled “Honor system for foreclosure paperwork has led to illegal Colorado seizures, lawyer surmises”. That article was about the House Bill 1156 and about Colorado’s troubling foreclosure system.
I had the pleasure of meeting Mr. Migoya and was impressed with his in-depth investigative work in getting at the truth. David has been writing for several years a series of stories dealing with a collection of issues involving Colorado’s unique trustee system and homeowner foreclosures.
Our current laws governing foreclosure favor lenders and put homeowners at a disadvantage. Articles highlighting our problems, such as David’s, will hopefully bring a change to help ‘even the playing field’ between homeowners and lenders.
Congratulations again David, and thank you for your honest and extensive reporting, an award I feel is very well deserved.
